I’m not very vocal about my opinions on God, but my girlfriend often brings up the topic so I thought I might as well blog about it. I believe in a higher being watching over humankind and protecting it, but I don’t necessarily believe in religion. I believe religion separates everyone into difference factions and that goes against everything that God stands for: instead of uniting with a common purpose, we hide behind a veil of beliefs that makes us think our way of life is better than the rest.
I believe in God because I don’t think that the reason I’m on earth is because of random chance. The universe has been around for around 4.5 billion years and is infinitely expanding. So, how is it that I came to be in the only habitable planet that exists (as far as we know)? How is it that I was born a normal human being instead of some degenerate being on a yet-to-be discovered planet where I would be killed or enslaved the moment I was born? How is it that I was born at a time when technology, which I love, is exploding and expanding at a rapid pace? Simple: God.
I have a theory: I believe Earth is the place God sends all creations to improve themselves. Whenever a new soul is created, it’s sent to this world to perfect itself to the point that it can finally join the ranks of God. To me, Earth is like a charter school for all of God’s creations. And none of us get to come home until either we perfect our souls through discovery and acquisition of talent or until we’ve failed long enough that God decides that we’re not capable of improving ourselves.
Every soul that’s created is nurtured and brought up on earth. If a soul’s physical body is unable to sustain itself (either due to death or some random act of another soul), the soul moves to another body to continue to perfect itself. In a sense, the soul is reincarnated to continue to learn. Once perfected, the soul finally leaves earth to rejoin God.
Why do natural disasters and man-made genocides take hundreds of lives? Because those souls have reached a point where God believes they no longer need to “be in school”. Why do some people die in car crashes while others survive? Because God brings back those who’ve learned enough and leaves those he thinks aren’t yet ready.
Taking your own life or someone else’s life is an automatic reincarnation: it brings you down to level 1, so to speak. If the lessons we’re supposed to learn leads to suicide or murder, Earth wouldn’t exist. It doesn’t matter how badly the other being harmed you, if you take someone else’s life, you’re simply saying you’re a better judge of character than God.
I don’t know what lessons we need to learn to rejoin God. All I know is my existence on Earth is due to the lessons I still haven’t learned. I do know that when I die, it wouldn’t have been because of random chance: it would be either because my body is too weak, or God knows that I’m ready to come home.
